How to use a car battery charger

A smooth engine start sounds better than a sputtering one. A harsh engine sound may incur a bad effect on one’s mood whether one is at work or on a vacation. But at the same time there is a feeling of relief when a car battery charger is there to cater for one’s machinery needs because one cannot always wait for others help.

Here is correct process of using Car Battery Charger : –

Step I :  Choose the right charger for your particular car battery. Read the charger manual and understand how to place the settings and how the charger works. Read all the warnings carefully.

Step II :  At first for your eyes safety put the safety glasses on before using the battery charger because batteries contains with harmful chemicals like sulfuric acid solution that can emit flammable hydrogen gas that can get ignited by a small spark and cause the battery to explode.

Step III:  Remove battery cables from the battery terminals. At first remove the negative (black color) cable and then the positive (red color) cable.

Step IV :  Before you begin, please confirm that the charger is not connected to any other electric outlet and the power switch is off.

Step V :  Now you can connect it to the battery charger. Connect the positive (generally red) cable to positive (+) battery terminal and the negative charger cable (generally black) to the negative (-) battery terminal.

Step VI:  In the next step, you need to set the volts and amps of the charger according to your preference i.e., whether you want to charge the battery slowly (trickle charge) or quickly. If you wish to slowly trickle charge the battery, then you set the volts and amps to a lower amperage and if you want to charge the battery quickly then you will have to set it to a higher amperage. But trickle charging is the better method because it gives the best result.

Step VII:  Then let the charger do its work. You can select a time for the charger and leave it to be shut off automatically when it is done but for all chargers this feature may not be available.

Step VIII: While the battery is charging, leave the battery charger or cables in one place.

Step IX :  When the battery is fully charged, turn off the charger and disconnect the cables in the opposite order in which you attached them i.e. at first disconnect the negative(black) alligator clip of the charger and then the positive (red).

Now, you should be ready to go but if you are going to start the car before removing the battery charger, be sure that the alligator clips and wires should not come into contact with moving engine parts.
